Britt:  I talked to Leo Harrison, I said why are all the scores so much more dominant right now?   I said I know why, the Pat-Traps.  You took the era of the kids setting targets, sometimes you couldn’t believe some of the targets the little kids would throw out there (on the arm of the Winchester Trap), that screws everything up on the angle.  Plus then you took the deal of having the puller out.  If you could get four good pullers, that was simple at the Grand.  If you get two good pullers, one mediocre and one bad one, you’re not going to beat somebody that has four good pullers.  You take that out and it’s all made it so much more consistent.  Plus, when they even went to the Pat-Trap they even softened up the distance.  Now then, you’re shooting a 46 or 44 yard doubles target and I guarantee you aren’t shooting a 48 yard singles or handicap target.  And that didn’t exist back in that era.

iTrapshooter.com:  That leads to the next question, if today’s shooters are better skilled?

Britt:  I don’t think they’re any better.  On any given day, if you could go back to when I was in my 30’s or 40’s, Bonillas, Stafford, Kay Ohye and Mr. Orlich, you can’t take anything away from them.

iTrapshooter.com:  Was the interruptor offset by the advent of the voice call?

Britt:   I don’t think the interruptor has anything to do with it.  It’s the speed, I’m not kidding you, if you want to make trapshooting harder make it go faster. At the old Grand, they couldn’t throw a 3 hole target consistently.  A 3 hole, ten foot high target; it was hard to get it out of some of the traps because it would hit the front edge of some of the traps.  The angles would hit the sides of the walls.  If you threw a 3 hole target on a Pat-Trap and threw it fifty to fifty-two yards and then threw a fifty yard doubles target, I’ve got news for you, the same guys would win.  You talk about humbling a bunch of folk that don’t need to be on the 27.  It would kill corn knee-high because speed kills in the game.  But the interruptor, not having the kid in the house setting targets, you took that variable out.  And then having the voice call, to me, is just as good as a good puller. It’s not any better than a good puller.
